GRACE GOW is an independent fine jewelry company based in Seattle and founded in 2007 by designer Cat McCadden. Grace Gow embodies an independent bohemian attitude through inventive combinations of aesthetic form, fabrication technique and gemstone selection.
Cat’s fundamental inspiration is the ocean. Its movement, power and yes—its grace—are hallmarks of her metal work. “I happily live in two worlds. When I’m on the east coast, I’m inspired by New York City’s relentless commitment to individual style. There’s always a new idea an evolved vibe that I bring back with me. I love Philadelphia’s jeweler’s row, a historic community of craftspeople that we’re lucky enough to work with on select projects. I grew up close to the Jersey shore; I’m drawn to the coasts. Culturally and artistically, I feel like an east/west hybrid.”
Trained as a metal smith, Cat relishes re-inventing herself on a daily basis with her jewelry. “The accessories I dream up and design serve as armor, as adornment, or as an indicator of my mood that particular day.” By incorporating bronze and other alternative materials refashioned alongside traditional gemstones in her work, Grace Gow defies labels of ‘modern’ or ‘traditional’.
